Project SUMMARY :
Project Deck Star was a full outdoor renovation in The Kingsway, Toronto, designed to improve both the function and curb appeal of the property.
The homeowner wanted a cleaner, stronger, and more usable outdoor space while making sure the renovation would not create future water issues near the basement. Big Dreams Reno created a plan that included interlock installation, landscaping, composite deck construction, retaining wall rebuilding, and waterproofing protection.
The Challenge :
The main challenge was making sure water would not seep through toward the basement after the outdoor upgrades were completed.
Because the existing retaining wall had to be removed and rebuilt, the project required careful excavation, waterproofing, and structural planning to protect the home while improving the outdoor space.
The PLAN :
Before the work began, we reviewed the outdoor area, retaining wall, basement protection needs, and overall layout.
The plan included:
Installing new interlock for a cleaner and more durable outdoor surface
Adding fresh sod and landscaping to improve curb appeal
Building a composite deck with 4-foot-deep Sonotube footings
Rebuilding the retaining wall with proper waterproofing protection
The BUILD :
During the build, Big Dreams Reno managed the outdoor renovation from start to finish with attention to structure, drainage, and finishing details.
The work included:
Removing the old retaining wall
Excavating approximately 8 feet down
Building a new concrete retaining wall with stone finishes
Installing a waterproof membrane around the retaining wall
Completing new interlock, sod, landscaping, composite decking, drywall, and paint
The RESULT :
The finished outdoor space is now stronger, cleaner, and more functional for everyday use.
